I was diagnosed with Asperger’s in 2004 and become official in 2011 by National Autistic Society.
Asperger’s Syndrome is High-Functioning Autism. Unlike Autism, High-Functioning levels are people who have unique traits and very intelligent. Also a lack of social skills which means it is hard to make friends outside of the work environment.
When my skills utilise to the right job in the right environment; I am not just an officer at the Westminster Society, but the difference maker of the Society. The skills that not only benefit the IT department but the organisation as some staff in the Head Office see and experience observed.
This is my 2nd Success story of employment (the 1st was Haringey Council).
My role as IT Assistant is to do IT support across the Society, going to the Flagship centres like Rainbow Family Centre, Piper House and Kingsbridge Road. Also going to the Westminster Society’s supported living houses where people with learning disabilities who we support live in their own flats with Support. I also help to advise the IT Manager moving forward with the IT infrastructure for the whole organisation.
I am certified in Microsoft Certified Professional – Charter Member status in windows 8 and 10 and ITIL Foundation in IT Service Management.
I enjoy my work here at the Society and the staff are very friendly. They are friendly because the role like Support Worker is you have to be ‘Down to Earth’ as they deal with tenants with various disabilities from Children’s Services to Adults. The Society has got a lovely environment.
Where I sit is in the Finance Office and my desk is where it suits my Autistic needs and the Computers which I upgrade with 2 monitors suits me perfectly to handle everyday tasks with ease.
Autism = Always Unique, Totally Interesting, Sometimes Mysterious.
