Amita is getting ready to hold her first solo art exhibition.
She will show her art at The Smallest Gallery in Soho at the end of May.
The window gallery in the West End shows modern and exciting art in one of the busiest areas of London.
The exhibit opens on 29 May and will be called A because Amita signs many of her art pieces with the letter.
This will be her first exhibition of just her own work.
Amita is finishing her pieces in the ActionSpace studio. She is happy with how it is going, she says: “This painting was very good, and I did very hard work.”
Amita has a bold style that blends painting, collage, and sewing.
“I like threading needles and sewing on my paintings,” Amita says.
Amita has been making art for more than 20 years at ActionSpace – since “a long time ago”, she says.
LDN London support Amita, who has a learning disability, in Kentish Town, and the team are proud of her and her fantastic art.
Amita creates art at the ActionSpace studios in Bloomsbury, a beautiful supported studio for people with learning disabilities.
“I like going to ActionSpace on Thursdays. ActionSpace is very good,” she says.
Amita works with Lisa Brown, associate artist and art facilitator at ActionSpace. They have known each other since 2006.
In the studio, Amita chooses what she would like to create and Lisa helps her to develop her ideas and supports her to bring them to life.
Lisa is also organising and curating the exhibition. She thinks that Amita’s style will fit well at The Smallest Gallery in Soho: “Her work is so energetic. I thought it would look striking in the shop window,” she says.
Lisa loves Amita’s recent autographed artworks and thought they should be shown to more people, she says: “It’s exciting, I wanted to share it. I thought she deserved the spotlight.”
“Amita’s really enjoying creating her pieces. There’s a real vigour to her work”, Lisa says, “And I love her self affirmation, adding her signature across her paintings. I thought we had to celebrate it.”
You can see Amita’s art at The Smallest Gallery in Soho from 29 May.
