The quality checkers have made their first visits to places we support people over the past few months.
The quality checkers are people with learning disabilities who review our services. They trained as part of the quality team last year.
Mo (pictured right) is one of the quality checkers and he talked about his first visit to meet people in Kentish Town in February.
Mo says he thinks it might take time for people to get to know him. He met one man during the visit who was very quiet, he says. “I was new, so he wasn’t going to open up straight away. I will go back and speak to him again.”
“I understand where people are coming from, that they don’t know if they can trust someone new. I was like that at first.”
Mo wants to make sure that people at LDN London are listened to. “Sometimes you just have to listen to them – even if it’s ‘nothing’ it helps them to put their mind at ease. If no one listens to a person, how will you know how they feel?”
After the visit, team manager Ben Clay, said: “Please pass our thanks on to Mo. He seems so well suited to the quality checker role and it’s great that he can share his expertise with people we support.”
Mo is still learning in his role and he made his first visit with Brendan (pictured left), who is LDN London’s quality checker coordinator. Mo says: “I’d like to go on my own after I get the hang of it. I think I will find out more about a person if it’s only me. If it’s two people, they might feel a bit nervous and scared. I’d like the experience to do it on my own – I can learn from my mistakes.”
Four of the quality checkers – Antonia, John, Mo and Tikara – gave feedback to some of LDN London’s trustees. Mo says: “They said we did some really nice work and that we are there to help people. They gave us really good feedback about doing our job.”
