He presented to people who who work in learning disability services in Camden and members of Camden Council. The presentation was part of a ‘Planning Together’ meeting at The Greenwood Centre.
Danny, who gets support from LDN London in Camden, has been part of a focus group called ‘Let’s talk about annual health checks’. A focus group is where people meet to talk about one subject.
The group have met five times and given feedback. They talked about what works well with annual health checks and what they think should be improved.
The group wrote a report about what they think. They are going to share this with doctors and nurses in Camden. It will help to train people to do a good job.
The group was set up with help from CLDS Health Facilitator Eilis Woodlock.
Many people with learning disabilities die at a younger age than people who do not have a learning disability. Sometimes people with learning disabilities don’t get the healthcare that they want and need. Having your annual health check every year can help you to stay well and healthy.
Every person over 14 years old can get a health check once a year with their local doctor.
This helps them to spot any problems with their health early. It means their doctor or nurse get to know them better as well.
They can choose areas of their health that they would like the doctor to look at when they go for their health check.
